The purpose of this grant is to foster a fresh outlook on the future of humanitarian imagery by involving individuals who are passionate about the subject. The aim is to collaboratively envision the growth of humanitarian imagery from a novel perspective—one that transcends conventional representations, prioritizes ethics and fairness, and enables a more balanced dialogue with the depicted individuals. This funding opportunity is designed to encourage the exploration of innovative narrative and iconographic techniques. Action Against Hunger invites all interested parties to break away from established norms, embrace creativity, and take risks, thereby contributing to collective discussions about advancing multimedia language in the humanitarian and social realms.

Benefits

The selected proposal will receive a grant of €10,000 and will be showcased starting in October 2024. Furthermore, the grant jury will be chaired by Cristina de Middel, a documentary photographer and artist, who will also provide mentorship to the recipient.

In October 2024, Action Against Hunger will host an exhibition featuring the artwork produced by the grant recipient for the “New Humanitarian Perspective” initiative. The costs associated with the exhibition’s production, within the confines of a predetermined budget set by the organization and the project creator, will be covered by Action Against Hunger. Collaboration between the grant recipient and the organization will determine the exhibition’s design.

Pursuant to the rights transfer agreement between the parties, Action Against Hunger will have the right to utilize the images created by the grant recipient for the duration of intellectual property rights and any extensions. This usage will commence with the presentation of the work in October 2024 and encompass the promotion and marketing of the Action Against Hunger Grant, as well as the Association’s activities, both digitally and in print.

In the two years following the project’s debut in October 2024, Action Against Hunger may organize additional exhibitions in France and beyond. Subsequently, the prints will be returned to the grant recipient and become their property. The recipient has the option to donate prints to Action Against Hunger for promotional purposes or upcoming shows featuring various grant recipients. However, the prints will not be employed for commercial purposes without mutual agreement.

Applicants for the grant consent to participate in specific marketing activities related to the grant, particularly for the opening of the exhibition. All publications and communications pertaining to the initiative funded by the Action Against Hunger Grant must include the phrase “Recipient of the Action Against Hunger Grant for a New Humanitarian Perspective.”
