MISA, the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent, is currently recruiting and inviting South African graduates to join the Young Graduates Programme for 2023-2025. Successful candidates will be placed in specific municipalities based on the needs and capacities of these municipalities, aiming to provide practical experience in the chosen disciplines.

About MISA:

MISA operates as a Schedule 3 government entity within the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoGi). Established in accordance with Section 7151 of the Public Service Act of 1994 (as amended), MISA’s mandate involves providing technical support and building technical capacity for efficient planning, delivery, operations, and management of municipal infrastructure. The programme offers internships to develop qualified technical specialists, enhancing municipal technical capabilities. The details are provided below.

The Young Graduates Programme is a structured, work-based internship designed to guide young graduates from different universities and university of technologies through a comprehensive work plan. This plan is intended to broaden their work experience and facilitate their professional registration as professional technicians. The focus includes various regulatory and professional bodies frameworks, including Act 36 of 2002 and Engineering Professions Act No 46 of 2000. Additionally, the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) is the statutory council overseeing the planning profession in line with the Planning Profession Act 36 of 2002 (PPA) and related legislation. Although the programme is open to all individuals, MISA encourages historically disadvantaged individuals to apply, and they will be given preference.

MISA Young Graduate Programme:

The MISA Young Graduate Programme comprises a structured internship development plan aimed at expanding the work experience of young graduates from different universities and university of technologies. The goal is to achieve professional registration as professional technicians through relevant statutory professional registration bodies. The recruitment process prioritizes candidates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and unemployed individuals for the 2023-2024 financial year. Successful candidates will sign a two-to-three-year internship contract, depending on the requirements of their specific disciplines. These Young Graduates will work with MISA and be placed within relevant departments in District Municipalities for the duration of the programme. Females, people with disabilities, and MISA bursary beneficiaries are encouraged to apply. Please select the appropriate province and discipline from the provided list.

Eligibility:

University and University of Technology graduates meeting the minimum academic requirements in the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering: BTech degree / BSc / B Eng in Civil Engineering
  • Town & Regional Planning: B.Tech degree/ BSc in Town & Regional Planning
  • Electrical Engineering: Degree / BSc / B. Eng in Electrical Engineering

Requirements:

Applicants must be unemployed graduates willing and available for a minimum 24 months of post-graduation workplace experience deployment within a host municipality. Applicants must be South African citizens.

Application Process:

Applications should be submitted on the MISA application form, available on the website (www.misa.gov.za), accompanied by a covering letter, a comprehensive CV, and certified copies of identity documents and qualifications. Alternatively, request the application form via email at young.graduates@misa.co.za. Applications without the required documents will not be considered. Please see the attached list of provinces where applicants can choose placements, along with relevant specific fields of work exposure. MISA reserves the right to make appointments or not. If no response is received from MISA within 90 days of the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful. Communication regarding advertised positions will be limited to successful candidates. Candidates will undergo suitability checks, including qualifications, employment, credit, criminal records, company ownership/directorship, and reference checks. Fax, post, and hand-delivered applications will not be accepted. Applications received after the closing date and time will not be considered. Fraudulent qualifications or documentation will lead to immediate disqualification. Direct or indirect canvassing for preferential treatment will result in disqualification of the applicant.
