Transnet extends an invitation to South African students to apply for the Bursary Programme for the 2024 academic year.
Closing Date for Bursary Applications: 30 September 2023
Transnet will be awarding bursaries within the following fields of study:
Specialist Commercial Bursary (Degree or National Diploma):
- Actuarial Science
- Business Science
- Computer Science
- Cyber Security
- Data Analytics
- Horticulture
- Informatics
- Property Valuation
- Real Estate
Engineering Bursary (BEng or BSc):
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Metallurgy Engineering
These bursaries are aligned with Transnet’s pipeline development strategy, focusing on fields that address the company’s skills requirements.
The bursary covers various expenses, including tuition fees, textbook allowance, accommodation, meals, and experiential training. The bursary award is renewable annually based on satisfactory academic performance.
Students may be required to complete vacation work at Transnet during the June/July or December/January holidays.
Upon graduation, bursars may be required to work at Transnet for a duration equivalent to the bursary award, subject to vacancy availability.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted no later than 31 October 2023. If you do not receive feedback by this date, kindly consider your application unsuccessful.
Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview at the Transnet Academy (located in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and Durban) before the final selection is made.
Additionally, students must undergo a medical fitness assessment and provide satisfactory academic results before the selection process.
Minimum Entry Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the application not being considered:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric or currently in Matric
- Full-time enrollment for a qualification in one of the fields listed above in 2024
- Enrollment at a recognized South African tertiary institution
- Specialist Commercial Bursary: Minimum level 5 (60%) for English and relevant subjects in line with the course criteria, in Matric
- Engineering Bursary: Minimum level 5 (60%) for Mathematics, Physical Science, and English in Matric
