The South African Road Federation (SARF) extends an invitation to South African students to apply for the Bursary Programme for the year 2024, covering both Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies.

Bursaries are on offer for studies at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, encompassing the following fields:

  • Road Safety Engineering
  • Road Transport Economics
  • Road Transport Management
  • Road Engineering (Civil Engineering / Traffic Engineering/ Bridge Engineering/ Pavement Engineering/ Transportation Planning/ Construction Materials/ Storm Water/ Environment/ Construction Management)

The SARF bursary is designed to provide partial financial support, aiding students in covering their study-related expenses. The value of the bursary will be determined based on individual student needs and the decisions of the Federation’s Council.

Recipients of the bursary will be expected to:

  • Give a presentation on their field of study at their local branch of the Federation.
  • Provide a study progress report every 6 months.
  • Register as associate members of the SARF.

Requirements:

Applicants need to fulfill the following minimum criteria before applying (failure to meet these requirements will result in the application being disregarded):

  • Preference will be given to South African residents, although individuals from SADC countries can also apply (SADC includes countries like Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe).
  • Pursuing a qualification within one of the listed road transport fields.
  • Enrolled at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or equivalent).
  • Application endorsed by the relevant academic authority at the chosen institute.
  • National Diploma students: Passed the first semester (S1) exams.
  • Degree students: Passed first-year exams.
  • Preference given to advanced-level students (MTech, MSc or higher), although undergraduates are also eligible.
  • Preference for full-time students, but part-time and distance learning students are also welcome.
  • Preference for employees of SARF member organizations.
  • Intention to work within the South African road transport industry post-graduation.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with the completed application form (failure to provide these documents may lead to disqualification):

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Grade 11 year-end results
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate
  • Most recent tertiary results (on institution letterhead)
